What is Welcoming the Stranger?
Welcoming the Strangeris a non-profit
educational ministry that seeks to follow Jesus'
call to welcome people who come into our land.
It provides free classes in English, computers,
and citizenship to immigrants and refugees in
Lower Bucks County and Northeast Philadelphia.
Founded in 1999,
Welcoming the Stranger has taught
more than 1800 students from 85 different countries!
Using paid
teachers and over 40 volunteers each term, classes
are currently being offered at ten
locations: the Computer Center of the Langhorne
Baptist Church, the Ivins House of the Morrisville
Presbyterian Church, the Warminster United Church
of Christ, the Church of Hope and Love in Levittown,
the St. Mary Hospital Family Resource Center
in Bensalem, the YWCA Center at the Creekside
Apartments in Bensalem, the Morrisville United
Methodist Church, the Brunswick at Attleboro
in Langhorne, the Chandler Hall Health Services
in Newtown, and the Holmesburg United Methodist
Church in Philadelphia.
