FLAG DAY/U.S. U.S. NATURALIZATION CEREMONIES

In 1916, President Woodrow Wilson designated June 14 as Flag Day. It commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777 by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. It is also a day when naturalization and citizenship ceremonies are often held at national parks and other historic sites, symbolizing the joining of new citizens with the nation's history and ideals. JUNETEENTH NATIONAL INDEPENDENCE DAY

The Emancipation Proclamation, signed on January 1, 1863 by Abraham Lincoln, granted freedom to all enslaved people of African descent in the United States. Juneteenth commemorates the date of June 19, 1865, when enslaved people in Galveston, Texas finally learned of their freedom. For more than 150 years, the holiday has been a serious but joyous observance in Black communities across the country. Designated a federal holiday by President Joe Biden in 2021.

WORLD REFUGEE DAY

World Refugee Day, organized by the United Nations, honors refugees from around the world. Established in 2001 in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees. Note: Refugee Sunday, a faith‑based observance adopted by Christian churches worldwide, takes place on the Sunday before or after World Refugee Day.

Passover (April 21-29), also called Pesach, is a major Jewish holiday conducted throughout the world on the eve of the 15th day of Nisan in the Hebrew calendar. The Passover Seder is a ritual feast where Jews retell the story of their liberation from slavery in Egypt. Passover lasts for eight days among the most religious in the Jewish diaspora.
